Like on the Kindle itself, the iPhone app lets users add bookmarks and adjust the text size of digital books. Since all purchased Kindle books are linked to an Amazon account, titles can be purchased online, on the kindle or in the app and then be pulled into the Kindle iPhone app or your kindle the next time it’s launched. If all your ebooks have been purchased through Amazon then you would have no problem reading your books on your iphone. However the iPhone app has no option to upload books that may have been download outside of Amazon.

Unlike the Kindle which uses files with extensions of .azw the iPhone app uses the mobi format of .prc. Only difference between the two is that .azw files are just .mobi (.prc) files with DRM removed. So in most cases you can just change the file extension on the end as long as you have a DRM free ebook. If your ebook is in another format (.pdf, .pdb, .epub…etc) then you will need to convert it before loading it onto your iPhone.

What you will need

Jailbroken iPhone or iTouch

OpenSSH running on iPhone

SSH client

Once you have the above requirements transferring your ebooks is as simple as just copying them onto the iPhone.

First find the IP address of your iPhone or iTouch. I recommend installing SBSettings on your iPod Touch, it is available at BigBoss sources. SBsettings does not come with an icon, you need to swipe your finger at the top of your iPod Touch screen. You will be presented with the following screen.

You also can find your IP address by going to Settings>Wi-Fi and then clicking the arrow next to your Wi-fi network that you are connected to.

Now open your SSH client on your computer and connect to your iPhone. I am using WinSCP

Hostname: IP address you found earlier (192.168.1.3 in the example)

Username: root

Password: alpine

You should now be in /private/var/root directory of your iPhone. We need to switch to /private/var/mobile/applications. You should be in a directory with a bunch of folders with long names of random characters and numbers.

Now we have to find which directory contains the Kindle app. Browse through each directory until you find the one that has a folder named kindle.app

Inside that folder browse to /../documents/ebooks/. This will be the directory where you need to copy all of your .prc files.

Once copied over restart the Kindle app on your iPhone. The app will create the .mbp files seen in the screen shot.

Note: When you are connected to your iPhone through SSH make sure that the phone dosent enter standby mode or your connection will fail.

I’m very excited my new mixer and and cd turntables arrived yesterday. I have had one CDJ-800MK2 for awhile but finnaly broke down and spent the money to buy another one (actuly two, it was a good deal) and a DJM-600 mixer with a pair of Dennon DJ DN-HP1000 Headphones. Unfortunatly I have been working ever since everything showed up so havent had much time to play. I tried the Headphones with my iPod and they are amazing. Hope to get time in the next few days to really test them out. New mixes coming soon.

When iPod is set to automatic mode iTunes automatically updates iPod’s music library whenever you connect iPod to your computer. iTunes transfers new songs you’ve added, and erases songs you’ve removed. However, the first computer you connect iPod to is its “home” computer, and the music library from that computer is copied to iPod. When you connect iPod to another computer, an alert box appears with this message

If for any number of reasons you have to reformat and then reinstall iTunes, as I recently had to, you will get the same error.

Now there are two ways around this

Use a program other than iTunes to manage your music

Trick your iPod into thinking that it is always connected to the same computer

You can do a simple search to find dozens of software that will manage your media with your ipod, so I will focus on the second method.

Trick your iPod into thinking that it is always connected to the same computer

First find the two files “iTunes library.itl” and “iTunes Music library.xml” These will be in your iTunes folder on your computer.

If you are just moving to a new computer or want to have two copies of your entire iTunes library, one on each computer, then simply copy both files from your iPod’s home computer to the second computer.

If you want to be able to manage your media on both computers but dont want to overwrite your second computer with the library from your first computer then backup both these files to a safe location.

Download a Hex editor

On your iPod’s home computer open iTunes Music Library.xml in a text editor (notepad) and find the “Library Persistent ID”

Copy down the 16 character string between the “<string>” tags

Repeat steps 5 and 6 on the second computer

Replace the “Library Persistent ID” on the second computer with the one that you copied from the iPod’s home computer

Open your Hex editor and click find and replace

Enter the “Library Persistent ID” from the second computer into the find field and the “Library Persistent ID” from the iPod’s home computer into the replace field. Make sure that you are matching by Hex not ASCII

Click “Replace All” and close and save the file

attach your iPod and Set one or both computers to Manually manage music

Set your iPod to manually sync with iTunes

Open iTunes if necessary.

Select your iPod from the device list

Go to the summary tab

Click “Manually manage music and videos”

Click apply
